Haute horlogerie represents the very highest level of Swiss watchmaking culture. Very few Swiss watchmaking companies retain an uninterrupted history of longer than 100 years, but one of them is based in Villeret in the Vallon de Saint-Imier. Here, in this renowned birthplace of traditional Swiss watchmaking, Montblanc has joined forces with Minerva, a small watchmaking manufacture founded in 1858. Down to this day, a select group of master watchmakers in the Minerva ateliers continue to create timepieces by hand, strictly following the principles of traditional haute horlogerie. To preserve this heritage, Minerva and Montblanc have jointly founded the “Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie” as a centre of excellence for the talents and skills that are essential for handcrafting haute horlogerie masterpieces. This is also where the Montblanc Collection Villeret 1858 line of exquisite, hand-made timepieces is created.
